Masala Vada Curry
Ingredients for vada:
Chana dal 1/2cup
Toor dal 1/4cup
Green chillies 6nos
Onion(chopped) 1/4cup
Sonph(anise seed) 1/2tsp
Salt to taste
Chopped cilantro 1/4cup
Masala ingredients
Coconut(grated) 1/2cup
Chilli powder 1tbsps(increase or decrease according to your taste)
Khus khus 1tbsps
Cinnamon 2(1inch sticks)
Cloves 4nos
Other ingredients
Tomato puree 1 and 1/2cup
Onion (big) 3nos
Ginger garlic paste 1tbsps
Turmeric powder 1/2tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Method
Soak the chana dal and toor dal for about 1hr.
Drain and grind it coarsely along with green chillies,sonph.
Mix chopped onion and cilantro to it and mix well.
Make small balls and press them a little so that they are flat and round.
Deep fry them until golden brown and keep them aside.
Fry all the masala ingredients in 1tsp oil and grind them into a powder.
Cut the 3 big onions into pieces and fry them in 2tbsps oil until brown.
Grind it into a paste.
Heat 2tbsps oil in a pan and add the onion paste,ginger garlic,turmeric.
Fry for a minute and add the tomato puree.
Fry until the oil leaves the mixture.
Add the ground masala powder to it and fry for a minute.
Add 1cup water and bring it to a boil.
When it reaches the required consistency add the vadas to it.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve.
